Cyber Literacies.1

I have just come across this amazing and thought provoking You Tube video (thanks Angela). I love the term ‘Cyber Literacies’ and I wonder if other educators believe that this term gets you thinking about the way that the www is changing the way we teach and think about literacy, in particular writing. http://anya.blogsome.com/category/new-literacies/

Is this working?0

Well, I have looked through a lot of blogs this weekend and have managed to get myself totally lost when clicking through and checking out all of the help and tutorials. I’m really unhappy with my boring old name and have just found out that I can’t change that, oh well. Whilst experimenting I have found out that there’s lots to think about. Do I want to use this as a class activity and create a class blog and if so, for what aim? What do I want my students to get out of this experience? What learning outcomes do I want? Is it for writing, homework, class cohesiveness, exposure to web 2.0, to encourage reluctant writers, enhance and excite my passionate writers…. to what aim? I have read interesting articles about the pros and cons of using blogging for homework and must admit that I am still sitting on the fence. I have managed to look at other blogs produced by grades and found them very exciting. I am still overwhelmed and need assistance with this journey. I wish that I’d chosen another name for my blog!! I’m going to school tomorrow to share my excitement. Let’s see what happens.

what a huge learning curve!0

This is my first ever post. I’m not even sure if that’s the correct terminology. I have taken the plunge to start with my own blog so that I can learn how to. My ultimate aim is to incorporate blogging into my classroom. The students know so much about ‘cyber literacies’ and it’s a huge challenge for teachers to introduce new technologies without having a go. I believe that it is so important to take this journey with them but it is challenging! I have know idea if I’ve taken this first step correctly and even where to go to from here? Well it’s a step, even such a small one.
